The Heavy Core is a brand-new item introduced in Minecraft, and it’s used to craft the powerful Mace—a weapon that deals more damage the farther you fall before attacking. Currently, the Heavy Core has no other uses, but it’s a crucial component for players looking to master the new combat mechanics.

In this guide, we’ll cover how to obtain the Heavy Core, including the steps to trigger an Ominous Trial, defeat the challenges, and unlock the Ominous Vault where the Heavy Core can be found.

How to Get the Heavy Core in Minecraft

1. Obtain an Ominous Bottle

In Minecraft, killing a Raid Captain (found in Pillager Patrols, Outposts, or Woodland Mansions) no longer gives the Bad Omen effect directly. Instead, they drop an Ominous Bottle, which grants Bad Omen when consumed.

• Ominous Bottle Levels: Ranges from I to V (affects trial difficulty).

• Duration: 100 minutes.

2. Find a Trial Chamber

Trial Chambers are underground structures found between Y-levels -20 and -40 in the Overworld. They are made of Tuff and Copper blocks and contain Trial Spawners and Vaults.

• You can locate them by trading with a Cartographer Villager for a Trial Chamber Map.

3. Trigger the Ominous Trial

To start an Ominous Trial, you must:

• Drink the Ominous Bottle to get the Bad Omen effect.

• Stand within 14 blocks of a Trial Spawner while having line of sight to it.

This converts the Trial Spawner into an Ominous Trial Spawner, increasing difficulty based on the Bad Omen level.

4. Defeat the Ominous Trial

The Ominous Trial lasts 15 minutes and spawns tougher mobs with better armor. Each spawner has:

• Simultaneous Mobs:

  • 1 Breeze

  • 2 Baby Zombies

  • 3 Other Mobs

• Total Mobs to Defeat:

  • 2 Breezes

  • 6 Other Mobs

Once all mobs are defeated, the spawner ejects loot, including a possible Ominous Trial Key (30% drop chance).

5. Unlock the Ominous Vault

Ominous Vaults are special vaults with red candles, terracotta, and Tuff blocks around them. They have a turquoise marking instead of copper.

• Use the Ominous Trial Key to unlock the vault.

• There’s an 8.3% chance for the vault to drop a Heavy Core.

Crafting the Mace

Once you have the Heavy Core, combine it with a Breeze Rod to craft the Mace:

Recipe:

• Heavy Core (Top)

• Breeze Rod (Bottom)

The Mace deals bonus damage based on fall distance, making it a powerful weapon for strategic combat.
