Fix Windows 11 Update KB5053656 Not Installing Install Error 0x800703f1

 

1. Run Windows Update Troubleshooter:

  • Open Settings (Windows key + I).
  • Click on System.
  • Click on Troubleshoot.
  • Click on Other troubleshooters.
  • Find Windows Update and click Run.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions.

2. System File Checker (SFC) and DISM:

  • Open Command Prompt as administrator: Search for "cmd", right-click, and select "Run as administrator".
  • Type sfc /scannow and press Enter.1 Wait for the process to complete.2
  • Type DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth and press Enter. Wait for the process to complete.
  • Restart your computer.

3. Reset Windows Update Components:

  • Open Command Prompt as administrator.
  • Type the following commands, pressing Enter after each:
    • net stop wuauserv
    • net stop cryptSvc
    • net stop bits
    • net stop msiserver3
  • Type the following commands, pressing Enter after each:
    • ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old
    • ren C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 catroot2.old4
  • Type the following commands,5 pressing Enter after each:
    • net start wuauserv
    • net start cryptSvc
    • net start bits
    • net start msiserver
  • Restart your computer.

4. Manual Update:

  • Go to the Microsoft Update Catalog website.
  • Search for "KB5053656".
  • Download the correct version for your system (x64, ARM64).
  • Run the downloaded .msu file and follow the installation instructions.
  • Restart your computer.

5. Clean Boot:

  • Press Windows key + R, type msconfig, and press Enter.
  • Go to the Services tab.
  • Check "Hide all Microsoft services" and click "Disable all".
  • Go to the Startup6 tab and click "Open Task Manager".
  • Disable all startup items in Task Manager.
  • Close Task Manager and click "OK" in7 System Configuration.
  • Restart your computer.
  • Try windows update again.
  • If update works, enable services one by one to find the conflicting service.

6. In-Place Upgrade:

  • Download the Windows 11 ISO file from the Microsoft website.
  • Mount the ISO file (right-click, select "Mount").
  • Run the "setup.exe" file.
  • Choose "Keep personal files and apps".
  • Follow the on-screen instructions.
  • This will reinstall windows while keeping your files.
