Hello, Shoeba Español TV family!
Today we have some great news that could brighten up your month: the government has approved a onetime payment of $3,500 for people over 62 years old who receive Social Security. The money is already arriving in the accounts! In this video we will explain:
Who can receive it?
How to apply?
When will they pay it?
And how to avoid fraud!
Stay with us and don't miss a single detail!
Why is the government giving this payment?
We know that life is becoming more and more expensive. The price of gasoline, food, and medicines keeps going up. That's why the government has created this financial support of $3,500 to help senior citizens.
Important: This payment is NOT a permanent increase in Social Security. It is a onetime support to help in 2024.
Who can receive the $3,500 payment?
You must meet these 4 key requirements:
1. Be 62 years of age or older at the time of application.
2. Receive any type of Social Security benefit, such as:
Retirement
Disability (SSDI)
Widow's Benefit (SSI)
3. You can still be working. If you have a parttime job or investment income, you still qualify!
4. Be a U.S. citizen or legal resident with a valid Green Card.
How to request payment?
You have three easy options:
1. Online: Go to my Social Security (SSA.gov) and follow the steps.
2. By phone: Call 18007721213. They speak Spanish!
3. In person: Visit a Social Security office and bring these documents:
Official identification (license, passport).
Social Security Number.
Proof of bank account for deposit.
When does the money arrive?
If you apply before March 15, you will receive your payment between March 20 and April 5. But the exact date depends on the last 4 digits of your Social Security number:
00000999 = March 20
10001999 = March 25
20002999 = March 30
And so on...
If you haven't received your money, check your account on my Social Security or call. If you requested a physical check, it could take up to 3 more weeks.
Beware of scams
Scammers are lurking. Never pay to apply for this benefit!
Social Security WILL NOT call you to ask for your SSN or credit card.
If someone tells you that you have to pay with gift cards, it's a scam.
Report any suspicious attempts to the antifraud hotline (SSA.gov).
Does it affect other benefits?
Don't worry! This payment WILL NOT affect:
Medicaid
SSI
Food Stamps (SNAP)
Housing subsidies
But beware: If you keep this money in cash, it could count as a "resource" for some programs. Instead, spend it on necessary things or deposit it in a separate account.
Married? Double joy!
If you are married and both are 62 years old or older, you can each receive $3,500! That means you could each receive up to $7,000 total.
Divorced? If your expartner has passed away and you are receiving widow's benefits, you also qualify.
We resolve your doubts!
Maria asks: “If I live in Puerto Rico, does that also apply to me?”
Answer: Yes! All U.S. territories qualify.
Carlos asks: “What if my bank closed?”
Answer: Update your information in my Social Security before March 10.
Missed the date? There is still hope
If you didn't apply by March 15, you still have until April 30. But don't delay: the longer you wait, the longer your payment will take.
If a qualifying family member has recently passed away, their relatives can claim payment with a death certificate.
