BBVA clarifies rumors about transfer fees
Hello everyone, welcome to Olivia Mexico. I'm your host, and today we'll be discussing a topic that has caused concern among BBVA users: the supposed new commissions for bank transfers.
Recently, information circulated on social media and in some media suggesting that BBVA would start charging for transfers that were previously free. This alarmed many customers, especially pensioners and retirees who depend on these operations for their daily finances.
Official statement from BBVA
To clarify the situation, BBVA issued an urgent statement denying these rumors. The institution stated:
"We have detected that there is misinformation circulating about an alleged increase in our commissions."
BBVA has assured that it will not implement new charges for its financial services and that it will maintain the current rates.
Services that remain commission-free
It is important to note that, according to official information, the following operations continue without additional charges:
- Interbank transfers (SPEI): Customers can continue to make transfers to other banks at no cost.
- Transfers between BBVA accounts: Moving money between your own or third-party accounts within BBVA remains free.
- Use of the mobile app and online banking: These platforms continue to offer their services without additional fees.
Services with existing commissions
Although there are no new charges, it is important to remember that some services already had established fees. For example:
- International transfers: These operations involve costs due to international processes and regulations.
- Card replacement: In certain cases, such as the replacement of the Blue Card, a charge of 192 pesos applies.
For specific details about these and other services, it is recommended to consult the official BBVA website or contact the bank directly.
Today, Sunday, February 16, I have to share with you some very important information that has generated a lot of controversy in recent days. Many pensioners and retirees who saw the previous video on this channel learned that the BBVA bank was going to increase commissions for services that were previously free, such as making payments through transfers, transferring money through SPEI or simply withdrawing money from the ATM more than four times a month. Well, the BBVA bank responded just a few hours ago, and in this video I am going to show you what their response was, since it has been quite controversial.
Before continuing, I want to remind you that, if you haven't already, you should subscribe to Olivia Mexico and activate the notification bell so that YouTube will notify you every time we upload a new video. Now, let's get to the topic at hand today.
The controversy with BBVA Bank
In the previous video, I informed you that BBVA bank was going to start charging for services that were previously free and that, in fact, are still free in other banks. This generated a lot of concern among pensioners and retirees, since many of them receive their payments through this bank. Well, BBVA bank has responded through its official social networks, and I am going to show you what its statement was.
The bank is basically saying that the fees they charge will remain the same and that the information circulating about an increase in fees is incorrect. However, there is one important detail that they are not clarifying: they are not saying that they will not charge fees, but that fees will not increase.
What Services Will BBVA Bank Charge for?
According to the official table of the BBVA bank, these are some of the services for which they will charge commissions:
1. Issuance of interbank payment order: $3 pesos.
2. Issuance of same-day interbank payment order (SPEI): $5 pesos per event.
3. Credit card payment from another bank: $6 pesos each time you do so.
4. Request and activation of electronic security device (token): $250 pesos.
5. Issuance of interbank payment order abroad: $20 pesos.
This means that, although the bank claims it is not increasing its fees, it is charging for services that were previously free or that continue to be free at other banks. For example, if you receive your pension through BBVA bank, you may be charged $5 pesos for each deposit you receive.
What Happens with Transfers and Withdrawals?
The bank has also clarified that it will not charge for making transfers between your own accounts (i.e. between accounts in the same bank and in your same name). It will also not charge for paying for services, requesting account statements or making transfers between your own accounts. However, if you make transfers to accounts in other banks or make payments to third parties, you may be charged fees.
As for cash withdrawals, the bank has not clarified whether it will charge for withdrawing money from the ATM more than four times a month, as had been rumoured. This is something we must continue to monitor, as it could affect many pensioners who depend on these withdrawals to cover their daily expenses.
What Should Pensioners and Retirees Do?
Given this situation, my recommendation is that pensioners and retirees consider changing banks if they are not happy with these fees. As I mentioned in the previous video, BBVA is not one of those banks that pays pensions early, and this is confirmed by the comments of many users on social media.
If you decide to stay with BBVA, that is your right, but you should be aware that you may have to pay fees for some services. On the other hand, if you prefer to avoid these charges, you can explore other bank options that offer free services or lower fees.
How to Increase Your Pension
Now, changing the subject a bit, I want to talk to you about something very important for those who are about to retire or who are already retired. Did you know that there is a way to increase your pension? Yes, just as you heard. If you are from the Afore generation, there are several ways to increase your pension and not stay at the famous $3,000 or $2,000 pesos that many receive and that, unfortunately, are usually insufficient to cover basic needs.
One of these ways is through voluntary contributions or complementary contributions. These are additional contributions that you can make to your Afore account to increase your retirement savings. However, it is important to keep in mind that these contributions must remain in the account until you meet the retirement requirements.
Another option is solidarity savings, which is available to public sector workers (such as ISSSTE members). This mechanism allows them to strengthen their individual account and improve their income during old age.
Tips for a Dignified Retirement
To ensure a sufficient pension for old age, it is essential to have discipline and planning. Here are some tips that you can follow:
1. Make voluntary contributions to your Afore: This will allow you to accumulate greater capital for your retirement.
2. Consider solidarity savings: If you are a public sector worker, this is an excellent option to improve your pension.
3. Learn about your rights: Know the options you have to increase your pension and do not hesitate to consult with a personal finance specialist.
4. Avoid unnecessary expenses: Plan your budget and prioritize your expenses to ensure financial stability during your retirement.
Recommendations for users
Given the confusion generated, here are some tips:
1. Verify official sources: Always confirm information through official BBVA channels or communications in recognized media.
2. Avoid spreading rumors: Sharing unverified information can cause unnecessary alarm among other users.
3. Contact the bank if you have questions: If you have questions about fees or other services, contact BBVA directly to obtain accurate answers.
In short, the controversy with BBVA continues, since, although the bank claims that it is not increasing its fees, it is charging for services that were previously free. My recommendation is that pensioners and retirees consider changing banks if they are not happy with these fees.
On the other hand, if you are about to retire or are already retired, remember that there are ways to increase your pension, such as voluntary contributions and solidarity savings. Don't settle for the minimum pension; take action today to ensure a decent retirement.
