How to Setup Any Controller on Steam for Any Game - Xbox, PS4, PS5, Switch

Steam is a digital distribution platform for video games and software. It also provides a variety of features for gamers, including the ability to use controllers with games.

To set up a controller on Steam, you first need to enable Steam Input. This is a feature that allows Steam to control the input from your controller. To enable Steam Input, open Steam

1. Open Steam:

   - Launch the Steam application on your computer.

2. Access Settings:

   - Click on "Steam" located at the top left corner of the Steam window.

   - Select "Settings" from the dropdown menu that appears.

3. Navigate to Controller Settings:

   - In the Settings menu, scroll down until you find "Controller" near the bottom.

4. Enable External Gamepads:

   - Enable any external game controllers you want to use (e.g., Xbox, PlayStation, Switch).

   - For Xbox controllers, you may also need to download and install drivers (if prompted).

5. Test and Configure Controller:

   - You can test your controller's inputs by clicking on "Test Input" or "Calibrate" in the same Controller settings window.

   - In "Advanced Settings," you can see how your controller interacts with the computer.

6. Close Settings:

   - Once your controller is enabled and tested, close the Settings window.

7. Configure Controller for a Game:

   - Go to your Steam library and find the game you want to play with the controller.

8. Access Game Properties:

   - Right-click on the game's title and select "Properties."

9. Navigate to Controller Configuration:

   - In the left sidebar of the Properties window, click on "Controller."

10. Configure Controller Settings:

   - Your controller should be listed here. Adjust the settings as needed.

   - It's recommended to enable "Steam Input" for better compatibility.

11. Ensure Steam Input is Enabled:

   - If enabling "Steam Input" doesn't work initially, close Steam and reopen it. This should enable it.

12. Apply Changes:

   - Save the settings and close the game's Properties window.

13. Play with the Configured Controller:

   - Launch the game, and your configured controller should now work seamlessly.
